Automated Ultrasonic – Shear Wave Testing (AUT-SW)
UT-SW automated ultrasonics testing is a practical choice for testing one side of the critical area, when shut-down work would be impractical.
It is a common method for hard-to-access areas, such as full-penetration welds, boiler tube inspections, nozzles, pipeline inspections and pressure vessel inspections.
UT-SW testing uses a single, angled, ultrasonic beam sent into the test area at a specific angle (45, 60, or 70 degrees). The amount of sound energy reflected is highly measurable and provides information about how large a discontinuity in a part is (size, length, and depth of flaws).
